Ladies and gentlemen… The GOAT

Life is GOOD.

Tom Brady is fresh off his 5th SB title in the most dramatic of fashions. This was quite possibly the greatest SB ever, as well as the greatest SB comeback ever, as well as one of the greatest SB performances ever for a QB (in the 2nd half).

Pats were down 28-3 late in the 3rd quarter and came back to win. This is actually nuts and I still find myself in disbelief  days removed from the victory.

Not only is this win just so sweet as a diehard fan because is cements both he and Bellichick as the greatest of all time, respectively, without any shadow of a doubt (there is literally no reasonable argument for any other QB/coach at this point – and only haters will say otherwise really), but with the whole BS that was deflategate, to see Goodell have to eat a dick and hand over the Lombardi to Touchdown Tommy himself was such a vindicating moment.

This SB win was just a culmination of the past two years following the last SB win, all the negativity of deflategate, all of the lies and deceit that was thrown at the fans and at the Patriots organization through that kangaroo court. The fact that his mom has been battling an illness over the past 18 months and he dedicated the game to her. All of this came together in what was the most emotional of his 5 wins, and by far the sweetest. If they never win another, I’ll be happy. No one is going to touch his legacy. His resume is just ridiculous – and in an era of salary cap where players at every key position are constantly changing, he and Bill have found a way to just maintain a dominance that is unprecedented over nearly 20 years.

Do I think they have more left in the tank? Yes. I could definitely see them winning another before Brady hangs em up. He says he wants to play until hes 45, which would be laughable if he wasn’t playing the best football of his career only months removed from 40. Fall offs can happen quickly as we’ve seen with Peyton, but Brady is just at a different level altogether. His nutrition regiment is absurd and the way he takes care of his body will set a precedent for what needs to be done to attain the ultimate level of longevity in this league.

As a fan, I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out. Hats off to Atlanta, they really did play an amazing first 40 minutes of that game – and if a bunch of things didn’t go the patriots way down the stretch it might be different. But thank god its not, and let’s all realize how fortunate we are to be witnessing the greatest football player to ever play the game competing dominating the league and competing at the highest level, all while in the “twilight” of his career.

Thank you Tom

King of the Castle

Hey guys, it’s been a while since the last post. Typical.

Alot has happened since my last post. Most notably, Katherine and I decided to move to Ottawa where we bought our first home! Very exciting to be a home owner at a relatively young age, and definitely gives us a sense of accomplishment for what we’ve done so far, and for where we’re going.

Poker has continued to go well this year. I am still waiting the inevitable hiccup, however for now there really hasn’t been one. We leave in two weeks for Punta Cana where I will be playing both the 5k and the 3k events. The 3k has a 2mm guaranteed prize pool so if there was a time to use my “one time”, I’m now letting the poker gods know I would like to use it for that event :). Katherine and I will also be celebrating our anniversary while we’re there, so all in all it should be a great trip!

Since the last post I’ve also diversified my investments quite a bit, and have really come a long way since then with regards to my “portfolio”. Alot of my focus in that regard has been directed towards crypto currencies (ex bitcoin), which seem to me to be the clear way of the future, and have the potential to replicate the returns seen in the initial dot com boom. Along with those, some diversified etfs have also done quite well for me this year.

That’s about all for now. Should hopefully have an update following the trip.

smell ya later march

March is done, so here’s my monthly blog post 🙂 Gonna try to put in more than just one per month moving forward, but we’ll see how that goes.

Life is going great these days, Spring is upon us and the weather is only getting better. NHL playoffs are starting (and *gasp* the Flyers look like they’re going to squeak their way into the playoffs), and poker has been going great so far this year. Katherine just got a job (the one she wanted the most out of all the one’s she applied to), and so it looks pretty likely that we’ll be getting our own house in 6-12 months 😀

Flyers wise, they’ve just been playing unreal of late. They have the second best record since mid Feb. and have just really started to put together a good run. As of now they’re at 89 pts with 5 games remaining whereas Boston is at 88 with 4 gr, and Detroit is at 87 with 4 gr (Flyers playoff odds are at 89% right now). This, for me, is super exciting because they really weren’t expected to do too much this year, and were kind of in a soft rebuilt. For those of you who don’t know me that well, I’m a die hard Flyers fan and root for them above any other team I cheer for in any sport. Looking at their prospect pool and seeing the way they’re playing under Hakstol has me super hopeful and excited for their future, and who knows, maybe they can put a cup run together this season and still be playing in June :). Oh and if Ghost doesn’t get the calder, there’s something wrong.

As for the weather, it’s just starting to get really nice which is really exciting. Can’t wait to give my stang a nice wash and polish and get back to cruisin in the nice weather. One of my fav things to do in the summer.

Poker stuff has been going great. Another pretty good month considering the low volume. Played lower limits than I usually do this month, kinda got into a bad habit of just playing games that I know are super easy rather than trying to challenge myself and play higher stakes. Going to make a concerted effort to avoid that in April and play entirely 1k+.

All for now.
All the best,
Jordan

New Best Month

Hey guys, just poppin in for my standard end of the month blog.

Some good news and some bad news… I didn’t get the 6-figure score I was hoping for going in to the Fallsview Classic WPT series. That being said, I did have ~30k in cashes and that coupled with online and cash winnings made for my best month ever in my poker career. I’m clearly very happy with how everything went, especially seeing as I took roughly a week off leading up to the events in order to prevent myself from getting burnt out from the 10-12 hour days I was looking at for the 6 days I was going to be in Niagara.

At the time I was very disheartened to bust the main. No one wants to come in 19th when you’re down to the last couple tables of play. Everyone is obviously focusing on the 400k top prize at that point, and to not be able to play for it at the final table was certainly a dissapointment. That being said, it would be silly for me to be unhappy with cashing in all three events, and playing very good poker overall. I lost 88<A7 allin pre for what was a ~40bb pot at the time which would have had me in a good position to make a FT run. Is that unlucky? Ofcourse it is. Was I unlucky? Ofcourse not… To cash in all three and cash for 30k in the span of less than a week is clearly great and I’m happy with my play/accomplishment/improved live play.

Moving forward I hope to continue this momentum and really put in some hours at highstakes in March. Hoping to eclipse my best month ever in consecutive months. Would be pretty awesome. Also very likely to play another live series in the next few months (montreal wpt seems very likely)

Other then that, I’m planning in getting more involved in investing. Both educating myself about day trading (I really want to look into ethereum), while also putting some money into ETFs and finally getting some foundation set for my future/retirement.

Other than that, all is well. Til’ the next time

January Done

Hey guys. Gonna keep this short and sweet.

January went pretty well considering how weak the volume was. Had alot of distractions this month. Replaced my computer and ended up spending  bundle on a pretty high end desktop. My girlfriend was also sick for a couple weeks of this month which unfortunately resulted in alot of trips back and forth to the dr office, as well as the hospital. Overall just alot of outside things making the grind more difficult than it should be. That said, I ran well and still won some money.

February coming up and I’ll be playing the entire fallsview classic, so hopefully I can bink one of these bad boys for a nice 6 figure score.

All for now, hopefully you’ll be hearing from me soon re: fallsview.

On to a new year!

Come at me 2016!

Christmas has come and passed, along with it December, and now we’re headed into a new year. Time has really flown this year, it’s really crazy.

Overall I feel like 2015 was a good year. I made alot of self improvements and have had success in all the areas I wanted to. I feel like I still need to work on my motivation and hours put into work, as I can never be really satisfied with the hours I’m putting in, so I’m hoping to see an improvement there in the coming months. It’s unrealistic to just try and change everything immediately, so a more gradual approach seems best. For January I’m going to aim for 80 hours of play, which for me would be quite good.

I’m not a big fan of doing resolution(s), but I think I’ll bite and make one for this year which hopefully I can track and follow. It’ll be somewhat ambiguous, but basically my goal for this year (1) is to drastically improve my mindset re: my career choice. Basically I want to be taking my job alot more seriously, and to approach it from more of a business standpoint. Additionally I’d like to finally (2) start investing and saving for retirement, as I’m really late to the party on this one at this point. The best time to start is always right now, so getting in on that is essential this year.

Nothing else much to talk about. Santa was very good to me, as he always is, and I had an enjoyable but (too) long break. Excited to get back to work and get back to the routine I’ve become accustomed to.

All for now, best wishes

Jordan

On to December.

Hey guys, gonna do my best to keep this one on the short side.

Poker wise this was actually a pretty solid month. Played more than I have in the past few months, and really had alot of success. I still have work to do volume wise, and am going to be adding another session to each of my days, but that being said its nice to see a decent volume month get rewarded for a change and see a really successful month.

NFL wise, Patriots have been rolling but unfortunately lost a nailbiter yesterday to the broncos. Somewhat of a silver lining to be found in the loss though, as Gronk’s injury wasn’t serious, and so we can expect to be pretty healthy come playoff time (barring no further injuries). This also gets rid of the pressure of going undefeated which I think is unimportant all things considered. They still have a game lead in the home-field race, and aslong as they can maintain that, I think this will be a blessing. Also have we see the last ever start for peyton? I think Osweiler has taken over the job now, with two fairly good performances.

Hockey wise flyers are peddling in the middle. Won a couple straight and Ghost has looked really good since being called up. The fan in me wants them to make the playoffs, but i dont feel like theyre a cup team really, and part of me wants them to just tank, knowing they have alot of young talent coming in for the future.

Looking forward to a big december!

good luck & all the best

Hallo’s Ween

Halloween is approaching and with it comes the end of October. Time is flying.

Poker wise my results were good this month, although the same old story of not playing as much as I planned came through. What I’m realizing is that I find it hard to play more than 2-3 sessions during the day regardless of their length, so for November I’m going to stretch my sessions to 2 hours each (which shouldn’t be a problem at all on bovada), and hopefully then even if I only get 2 sessions in a day, it will still be a respectable four hour day.

Sports wise the flyers have started off better than expected and are looking decent. I’m somewhat hopeful that they can snag a playoff spot this season. As for the Patriots they just remain the team to beat in the NFL. They’re 6-0 and Brady is the clearcut MVP at this point with 16 tds vs 1 INT (even the nfl writers have put out several articles, one today in fact, proclaiming him to be the GOAT and crowning him as such – Something I’d done a while ago). It’s good to see, and I can only hope he goes ahead and wins another superbowl before he retires just to firmly set himself as the greatest in everyone’s eyes that know anything about football.

For Mens league hockey we finally got our custom jerseys in and they look unreal. White and baby blue with the lacing at the neck. We’re also 4-1 to start the season and your boy is cracking in at over 2 points per game 😀

Other then that not alot is new. Katherine and I are going as a bottle of dos equis and the most interesting man in the world for Halloween, should be pretty awesome, although the hangovers these days are awful and I just can’t be bothered to really drink anymore.

Take care and good luck,
Jordan

Wake me up when September ends

September is all finished now and so I figured I’d give a little update for how the month went.

Poker wise it was okay. When I played I generally did well although the volume continues to be my biggest enemy. I did play 4-5 live sessions which count for hours but not so much for hands and actual volume. I also booked several coaching packages which are both profitable but also really fun/keep my game sharp. I find coaching to be a pretty valuable way for me to think outside the box about certain things and always be critical of how I’m thinking/playing the game to make sure I’m relaying good information to my clients (and friends). Online went fairly well too, I won when I played. Besides breaking even in tourneys where I missed out on a couple deepish runs I’d say the month, poker wise, was a success minus the volume being lackluster.

I’ve really decided that this month there will be no booking wins or anything like that, just sit down 4-6 days/week and grind my 4-6 hours.

Outside of poker I have been doing alot of reading. I read daily, though the amount each day varies. I’m closing in on the end of “endgame the calling” by Frey. It’s quite good and I’m looking forward to the next installment. Reminds me alot of the hunger games type of series. Once that’s done I’ll have to evaluate what I’ll read next, but I think I’ll take a look at some top 100 lists and get cracking on those.

Sports wise the Patriots are looking amazing and I’m really hoping for a repeat. I think they’re the class of the AFC and Brady’s start to this season has been absurd (he’s the clearcut MVP frontrunner as of now). Other then that the NHL season is set to start on the 7th. Pretty excited, although I don’t expect amazing things from Philly this year. Once our plethora of D prospects gets a bit older and into the bigs I think we’ll be a team to contend for years to come.

Katherine’s Birthday was a few days ago and was overall a good time. Pretty crazy how fast these last three years have gone, and I definitely wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Halloween coming up as well which means Halloween haunt at wonderland! I think we’re doing Most interesting man in the world/Dos Equis bottle for our costumes this year, but it’s not set in stone.

Otherwise not much else is new, just a recap of the goings on for the month.

See you soon

August done, on to September

Hey guys, just coming in for a little update.

August was a pretty great month overall. Poker wise I played a good bit, and studied a good bit as well, and ended up having a fairly strong month all things considered. Could have played more, but overall I’m happy with how it went. Going to be looking to play some more tournaments (I never play tourneys) in the coming months, as I really feel like they’re where the highest value is at.

Ruling just came back for the Brady suspension and thank god it was revoked. Clearly there was very little evidence against Brady, and it was a real witch hunt all things considered. Really looking forward to seeing him win his 5th ring this season :). Opener is thursday vs the Steelers and it should be a great one.

I also just bought a new car. Its a 2005 mustang. Got an unreal deal on it and its just a great driver. Had it for a couple days only now, but I love it, and its definitely an upgrade from my older mustang. Really excited about it and definitely happy with the price I paid.

I also finally finished Great expectations which was a rather boring read. Have moved on to Endgame which has been unreal so far. Similar premise to the hunger games, but with some differences that make it much better imo. Theres also a puzzle that was collaborated by several MIT professors inside the book – and the first person to solve the puzzle wins a 500k$ usd prize. Pretty insane lol

Also been sweating alot of the highstakes this month, as Isil (aka the king) has been on an absolute tear.Poker is always the most exciting when he goes on one of his tears, so this has been fun to watch and I hope he continues to win (currently on a 3+mm heater)

Anyways, thats about it for now. Here’s to hoping september is my best month yet poker wise and life wise in general.

Regards,

Jordan
